Our RSGIS research group participated in the final conference of the Horizon 2020 project FIRE-RES, titled “Toward a Wildfire-Resilient Europe: From Knowledge to Policy Action”, held on 4–5 November 2025 in Brussels. Asst. Prof. Christos Vasilakos represented our group at this important European event. FIRE-RES represents a major European effort and investment (approximately €21.5 million), uniting research, innovation, and practice to foster resilient landscapes, communities, and governance systems across Europe in the face of increasing wildfire risks.
Together with our colleagues Asst. Prof. Palaiologos Palaiologou (Agricultural University of Athens), Dr. Olga Roussou (University of the Aegean), Dr. Katerina Trepekli (Advisor to the Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection of Greece), and Dr. Christos Giannakopoulos (National Observatory of Athens), we proudly represented the Greek Living Labs. By attending the event, we had the opportunity to engage directly with scientists, policy-makers, community leaders, and civil-protection practitioners, to disseminate the project’s results and explore future collaborations toward a wildfire-resilient Europe.
A special thanks goes to Prof. Kostas Kalabokidis, Principal Investigator of the University of the Aegean team, for providing us with the opportunity to contribute to this important four-year project.
