We are pleased to share that Doropoulos Goulios, an MSc alumni of RSGIS research group, presented a poster entitled “Showcasing Cultural Heritage through Augmented and Virtual Reality using Photogrammetric Methods: The Case of the Daphni Monastery” at the 17th National Cartographic Conference (17ο Εθνικό Συνέδριο Χαρτογραφίας), held in Thessaloniki in 2025.
The conference, organized under the theme “Cartography: The Continuous Interface of Science, Technology and Society” (more information), brought together researchers and professionals from across Greece to discuss recent advances in cartography and geospatial sciences.
The presented work, based on Doropoulos MSc thesis, explores the integration of photogrammetry, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) for the documentation and digital showcasing of cultural heritage sites. Using the Monastery of Daphni as a case study, the research demonstrates how immersive technologies and 3D modeling can enhance both preservation efforts and public engagement with cultural heritage.
Congratulations to Doropoulos for representing our group and contributing to the dialogue between cartography, technology, and cultural heritage!
