As part of the Erasmus+ staff mobility program, Asst. Prof Vasilakos C. from the Department of Geography, University of the Aegean, visited the Geographical Institute of Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, Germany, hosted by Professor Vafeidis Athanasios.
The visit aimed to strengthen the long-standing collaboration between the two institutions and explore new opportunities for joint research and academic activities. During his stay, Asst. Prof. Vasilakos presented the ongoing research, projects, and scientific activities of the Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Science Research Group, highlighting recent advances in geospatial technologies, remote sensing applications, and environmental monitoring.
A field campaign was also conducted during the visit, focusing on UAV-based image acquisition for coastal erosion monitoring. The fieldwork provided an excellent opportunity to exchange expertise and discuss innovative methodologies for studying coastal dynamics using unmanned aerial systems and geospatial analysis techniques.
The visit further enhanced scientific cooperation between the two research teams and laid the foundation for future joint initiatives, including research projects, publications, student exchanges, and collaborative field studies.
We would like to thank Professor Vafeidis and the Geographical Institute of Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel for their warm hospitality and productive discussions. We look forward to the continuation and expansion of our cooperation in the years ahead.
